CPR For Drowning and Other Cardiac Events – Do you know the difference?

Justin Sempsrott, Executive Director, Lifeguards Without Borders

Did you know that CPR for Drowning and other causes of cardiac are different? In Drowning, the heart stops because there is no more oxygen, so breaths and compressions are vital. This session will use videos of actual drowning patients to discuss these differences and tell you what to do in the critical first few minutes of a drowning.  Justin Sempsrott has been an ocean lifeguard since1996, founded Lifeguards Without Borders and serves as their Executive Director. He has been named Lifesaver of the Year by the National Drowning Prevention Alliance and received the Presidents Award from the National Safe Boating Council. He currently works in Northern Nevada as an Emergency Medicine, EMS, and Flight Physician.

THE SUP INDUSTRY: FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A NON-PROFIT ENTITY FOCUSED ON SAFE PADDLING PRACTICES
This presentation will focus on relaying information from a number of statistical resources for paddlesport participation throughout the industry. The premise of this discussion will be to inform others of the current laws and best practices, discuss standards as they may currently reside, and further understand the problematic areas of safety concerns that have arisen with the incoming paddling public to the sport of SUP.  T.J. Turner is the Education & Outreach Coordinator for the ACA, representing Canoe – Kayak – SUP – Raft – Rescue.
