Give Them Cake

Upon returning from our recent Surf Expo event, I had a neighbor (definitely, non industry) ask me to describe what our show was like. Being from the South, I took my poetic license to describe our event with an analogy. It goes something like this:

Scene 1.  Remember when you were seven years old and your birthday was coming up? Remember your parents asking who you would like to invite, your close friends or the whole class? Location? Backyard or go karts and inflatables bigger than you could imagine? The expense? Don't worry, mom and dad are paying for it!

Scene 2.   You invite invite eveyone to the cool go kart track with the awesome inlfatable slides. Mom and dad skip lunch for a month to pay for it! You pick out invitations -- Super Heroes -- and put them in the mail.

Scene 3.  The day arrives, adrenaline is flowing. Guests begin to show, some with younger siblings (uninvited), a few others try get in, but mom and dad came through and rented the whole place. Security is tough at "Jungle Gyms."

Scene 4.  Lets get down to business, shoes off, socks required to have fun! Okay, some have a little more "fun" than others and need to be calmed down.

Scene 5. Cake time, time to give them the cake! As each individual apporaches, I notice the specific requirements of each party goer as they, in detail, tell me how they want their cake. "Can you scape off the icing? I just want the head. Can I have a corner? Do you have chocolate cake?" After serving customized pieces to all of the guests, a voice comes over the loudspeaker, "I hope you had a great time at Jungle Gyms, we look forward to seeing you next year."

Next year, I can't wait. Aren't birthdays cool.

Note to self.....cupcakes.
