Jim Moriarty, executive director of Surfrider Foundation, rallies the largest crowd ever to attend a California Coastal Commission meeting. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the meeting drew more than 2,500 eager to discuss the proposed 241 toll road. The meeting was expected to last well into the night.
The RV's from Fox, Boost, Etnies, Billabong, Volcom, Hurley, and more helped shuttle protestors down to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, where the CCC meeting was held.
SIMA's Dick Baker, Ocean Minded's Gary Ward, ASR's Andy Tompkins, and man-of-the-hour Bog Mignogna, who was instrumental in getting the word out about the Save Trestles meeting.
Friends Of The Foothills, The Sierra Club, Surfrider Foundation, Wildcoast, and more were on hand to register attendees opposed to the proposed 241 Toll Road through San Onofre State Park. The lines were long, but the crowd was in a great mood.
The crowd at the pro-toll-road TCA booth were, well, pathetic really. Although the woman working there had nice leather boots, which I guess is something.
Dick Bake, big wave hell charger Greg Long and his San Clemente neighbor Gary Ward.
Amen brother.
Cheyenne Jane Arnold and Mr. Chris Cote, esq.
The crowd files in.
Would you trust your Trestles with this man? Well, for most in the audience today, the answer was a resounding "No!"
Not to get all gushy, but it was really clear who the "good guys" were today -- and so obvious which group you'd want to hang out with. In fact, the crowd would have made any "wedding crasher" take notice.
While I couldn't get confirmation of this, most people I spoke with insisted that these Pro Toll Road demostrators were paid $25 dollars to attend. Looks like most of them could use a few more long walks down to Trestles to work off those guts.
Raise your hand if you're sure, and 2,000 arms go up.
PT's shirt says it all. It was very disappointing to see that the California Governor was so wrong on this topic.
