Right from wrong

My girlfriend just met her new roommate the other day. She moved into employee housing at a Colorado Ski resort. I did the same thing several years ago, so I know what that was like. She told me that her new roomie introduced herself as a "stoner." If you were not aware, most of the labor staff at ski resorts are all high on something. My girlfriend knows this and is okay with it. She does not participate, and she doesn't have a problem with others getting high.

For a few days everything was okay. Her roomie never get high in their shared room. Then one day her roommate displayed a pound of weed to her friends in their shared room. Having it in the room -- and having so much of it -- is a different thing than smoking it outside. My girlfriend said something that just didn't sit very well with everyone else in the room.

Some guy replied "Are you some rich bitch right-winged republican?"

I'm not going to go into what happened after that. That's her story, and not much of our business. This is where my rant starts.

I don't care what your thoughts about drugs or politics are. It doesn't even matter what mine are. What does matter is that there are many people who jump to their own conclusions -- like the guy who said that to my girlfriend. They/he quickly assumed that my girlfriend belonged to a certain group because of her comment.

The situation with my girlfriend really pissed me off. We both don't care what people do for their own personal entertainment. The problem is having that much marijuana is illegal on a federal scale. That guy was quick with his labeling and accusing finger. The situation had nothing to do with politics or actually what my girlfriend’s beliefs are.

Her response was, "Yes, if you think so. But it doesn’t really matter." My girl is so rad. She summed up the situation perfectly. It doesn't matter if she was rich or not. It doesn't matter if she has right-winged or left-winged ideals. It doesn't matter if she's Republican or Democrat. Those are all just beliefs and labels.

What does matter is that there are rights and wrongs in this world and she knows the difference between them. There is a gray area between each person's perception of what is right or wrong, but there is none between what's legal or illegal.

I could go on and on. I'm going to end this by just saying that my girlfriend is rad. It doesn’t matter what her beliefs are. It does matter that she knows what's right and wrong.
