Go Skate Deck Art Show
As a hobby and a bit of a side business, I run an art gallery in Atlanta. It's called dooGallery (www.dooGallery.com).
I live in a large warehouse and really have too much space for my own good. So I decided to open an art gallery in my living room. Because I'm on the road so much, this is also a great way for me to meet people. Running the gallery has been fun -- as well as a help with paying my bills. Whenever possible I try to do shows related to the boardsports industry. I've hosted skate video premieres, fashion shows, and my latest was event was the Go Skate Deck Art Show.
On June 23rd I held a at my gallery. On display were 91 boards designed by artists from all over the country and the world. More than 190 people attended the show and viewed the art decks. It was a ton of fun and benefited a good cause.
I'm happy to report that twenty boards sold that evening (I really thought I would sell more). The show was a fundraiser for the Tony Hawk Foundation, and we were able to raise $390 for that charity. I'm also happy to announce that the five "best of show" boards will be donated to the "Decked Out: A Skate Art Silent Auction to Benefit Ray Underhill" which will be held at the upcoming Surf Expo, September 14-16.
