A Homer Simpson Tiki
I am so happy to announce that I raised $390 for Surf Aid International. I know it's chump change compared to what Fernando Aguerre or Paul Naude donate at the Waterman's ball. For me, I'm really proud of that amount. The money was mostly raised by donations and from the sale of a few pieces of art. I am going to enjoy giving them the check at the Liquid Nation Ball.
Here's a quick recap of the event: I had fiften artists showing their art. All of it had a Tiki or "Island Style" theme, but there were two pieces that really stuck out. One was a large Tiki head made out of metal. It was a torch light, so when it was lit, a red light glowed inside of it, making it look really evil. There was also a red torch light on top that lit up. The second piece was an amazing detailed painting of Homer Simpson's head, which was all tikiified. It looked like a cartoon wood carving complete with a pink donut lei.
For entertainment, The Southern Soul System DJs spun lots of lounge music; the Blast Off Burlesque crew did a hilarious water/shark/rescue/striptease skit. There also were Poi fire dancers, Hula & Belly dancers, games, raffles and other silly fun stuff. The party ended when the blender drinks were gone & the kegs were floating.
Because this is my blog, I'm going to allow myself to say thank you to all the artists and performers. Thank you to Bavaria Holland Beer, Woody's half pipe, Gezzo's Surf Grill, and Junk Man's daughter for their donations. I don't want to forget the biggest thank you to everyone who attended and donated.
