What’s up with skate

So what’s up with the skate section at the show? I’ve lately been asked that question quite a bit. Many want to know which skate shoe brands are attending. Others wanted to know about our skate events. Here’s a quick rundown on some of the great skate facts for this show.

1. Skate Shoes. There is such a huge buzz around the rumors that the skate shoes are not showing at the trade shows. Well, that may be true for the other trade shows in our industry, but it’s not true with our show. Since our show is important to a huge region that can’t easily be serviced by a group of reps, a majority of the shoe brands will be present. We even have a first-time showing brand! At this show we have (in no particular order): Vans, Osiris, Globe, C1rca, IPATH, Nike, and Greedy Genius.

2. Volcom’s Mini Ramp contest. Yes, Volcom is once again hosting their amazing skate contest. They’re shifting the format for this show. For this show it will be an invitational amateur-only contest with some pro demos. The guys at Skate Park of Tampa know who the best Ams in the world are and they’ve invited all of them to this $15,000 prize purse event. Next January the mini ramp contest will be a Pro-only contest.

3. Concrete Wave’s Slalom Demos. This is a new show feature for us. We are proud to become the Trade show for the slalom and downhill skate industry. Our first step to embrace this demographic is to build a slalom course. Then let the World’s leading publication for that scene, Concrete Wave host daily demos on it.

4. Insight’s Skate Movie Theater. We invited every skate exhibitor to show their latest skate film on our show floor. Stop by and watch some films for free on our huge twelve-foot screen.

5. Skate Art Museum. This is a display of more 170 skate art decks presented by ISM & Sk8ology. Simply an incredible collection from our industry’s best creative minds.

6. IASC art skate deck auction. I held an art skate deck showing at my own gallery (dooGallery) on the Go Skate Day. Five of the Best Of Show decks were not sold so they could be auctioned during this Surf Expo. The money raised from the sale of these decks will be given to the Go Skate Day Foundation.

As you have just read, there are plenty of great skate features for this upcoming Surf Expo. Not only will you be able to meet with your reps, marketing managers, company owners, pros, and other skate industry executives, but you will be entertained. I guarantee it.
