Rip Curl Announces ASP 4-Star Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico in 2013

Costa Mesa, California/USA (Thursday, October 11, 2012) – Rip Curl is excited to announce the birth of the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico presented by seepuertorico.com, an ASP 4-Star rated event, to take place February 6-10, 2013 at Jobos Beach, Puerto Rico.

After successfully completing the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere in Puerto Rico” ASP WCT event, which saw the crowing of Kelly Slater’s 10th ASP World Title and Stephanie Gilmore’s 4th ASP Women’s World Title, the foundation has already been laid for Rip Curl to return with another ASP event.

“Puerto Rico is home to world class waves and world class surfers,” stated Rip Curl USA VP of Marketing, Dylan Slater. “We know this first hand after running a historic event here in 2010. The support from the local government and local surfers has been overwhelmingly positive, and we can’t wait to bring an ASP event back to the Caribbean.”

Current ASP WCT surfer and icon of the sport, Taylor Knox, shares the enthusiasm. “I can’t wait to get back to Puerto Rico, it was such an amazing event in 2010. Puerto Rico is absolutely beautiful, and the waves there are world-class. February 2013 can’t come fast enough!”

While 2010 saw the world’s best showcase their talents at Middles Beach in Isabela, the 2013 Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico will remain in the same area, except just down the road at Jobos Beach. Featuring a lined-up, high performance righthand canvas, there’s no doubt this event will keep the legacy alive from 2010, while giving more local Puerto Rican surfers an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Luis Rivera-Marín, commented on the importance of this event and the reasoning for their commitment to the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico.
