Surf Expo January 2010 Preview!
January is shaping up to be a great show. With a record number of special features on the show floor and our pre-registered buyers already toppling last year’s figure, we’re looking forward to providing a fantastic order-writing venue for our manufacturers and retailers alike. Here’s a list of our events and features we’re proud to provide to our attendees; places to relax, network, and enjoy Surf Expo and the industries they’re a part of:
Bangers for Bucks Shop Team Skate Contest
After more 360,000 votes on surfexpo.com, three fan favorites join seven other top retail shop teams to compete for 15K instant cash for themselves and merchandise credit for their shop. The contest takes place on a one-of-a-kind, three-stage Team Pain Skate Park. 4pm Thursday and Friday. Brought to you by Eastern Skateboard Supply, Hurley, Vans, Team Pain, and Kona Skateparks.
Beach Lounge
Unwind to the sounds of the ocean in this white and blue oasis at the Top of the Hall.
BRA Retailer Survivor Series Returns
The Board Retailers Association (BRA) is hosting two Retailer Survivor Series one day prior to the opening of the Surf Expo trade show on January 13, 2010. Retailers are encouraged to take advantage of the trip to the trade shows by attending a full-day of certified retail education focused on current market issues facing specialty retailers. The primary purpose of the Retailer Survivor Series is to educate retailers and provide the tools necessary to continue to survive the market and increase profitability.

East Coast Surfing Legends Hall of Fame Awards
You’re invited to watch some of the sport’s most celebrated figures as they’re bestowed this honor. Friday at 6pm in Room 320A.

Industry Party With DJ Z-Trip
The Surf Expo Party is back! It will feature DJ Z-Trip, “godfather of mash-up” music movement and considered to be one of the best live performance DJs in history, by both fans and peers. Appearing before sold-out crowds of more than 15,000, Z-Trip mixes songs from different genres into one derivative jam. Orlando Hilton Ballroom, Friday, Jan. 15, 8 -11 pm. Complimentary beer the first hour then cash bar. Simply present your show badge at any Show Info or Registration desk to get your party wristband.
Jedidiah Live Mural
Jedidiah’s artists return to fashion hope at Surf Expo through another fantastic live mural, which will be painted throughout the show and auctioned off afterwards. Proceeds go to Amor, a nonprofit humanitarian organization the builds home for impoverished families in Mexico. Across from Jedidiah in Booth #564.
The Kelly Slater Sculpture Project
This non-profit organization has brought the sculpture back to the Surf Expo floor – and it’s been bronzed! Stop by to admire the work of art, and to contribute to the recognition of this living surf legend and the surfing community that fostered such a world class athlete. In Surf

Orlando Art Project
This popular feature returns to spotlight local artists of several disciplines, showcasing and performing their works. At the Top of the Hall.
Movie World Premiere: The Payoff
Catch this latest surf film for the first time. Presented by Soul Trip, Ocean Avenue and Eastern Surf Supply. Thursday after the show at 6pm in Room 210A.
Pro Surfer Autograph Session
Meet the likes of Asher Nolan, Jessie Heilman, Sterling Spencer, Travis Beckman, Eric and Evan Geisleman and more to be announced as Pro Surfing Management brings its clients to the Boardwalk for a signing. Friday at 2pm.
Quiksilver Eddie Celebration
Join the Quik team as they celebrate 25 years of the Eddie surf contest in memory of Eddie Aikiu. Meet surf legends Pete Mel and Mark Healy in a casual meet and greet atmosphere. Beer on Quiksilver and Surf Expo. Thursday from 4-6 at the Quiksilver Vibe Area.
Red Moon Henna & Body Art

Shaping Demo and Shape Off
R&D Surf’s Shaping Demo will go show-long. Watch boards become the works of art that they are. Plus East Coast Surf Legends will be facing off by replicating a board from a blank on Friday and Saturday. Booth #138.
Shaun Tomson Luncheon: “Hero Shapers - What History can do for you Today”
Join Shaun as he presents an intriguing look into surfboard history and how it is impacting design today and will continue to do so in the future. The presentation will begin with the shortboard revolution and go though the modern era, highlighting the pivotal moments and shapers- plastic machines, pocket rockets, stubbies, downrailers, good luck Dave fishes, bonzers, swallows, pintails, round pins, banana board, twins, thrusters, low volume, curvy concaves, single to double concaves and Kelly's deep 6.
